Jungle Haven at Rekindle Farm: The most lovely family with a gorgeous farm on the Big Island, Hawaii. Fresh fruit, homemade bread, cooking in the outdoor kitchen, and bathing in the outdoor shower. They built all this themselves! Also, importantly, a brief magical walk to mermaid pools in the ocean. Staying here and talking to the hosts while in those very pools really did change our lives.

Little Manu in Kula, Maui: The dreamiest cabin in Maui. Peaceful, private, views of so much of the island. Watch the rains come in, watch the sun shift, the stars come out. It is magical.

Mountainside Jungle Eco-Fort in Canovanas, Puerto Rico: This brand-spanking-new little off-the-grid spot is perched on the side of a mountain in the middle of the rainforest; your only neighbors are a hydroponic lettuce farm and 40 zillion coquís. The lodging itself is basically a futuristic tiny house, but you're renting it for the massive deck with views all the way down to the coast, and the Hot Tub of Secrets perched on said deck with a big old telescope for stargazing, and the private pool on the hillside below. I was there this May and adored everything about it. I saw two (2) golden mongooses on that trip and zero (0) chupacabras - Canovanas is where their legend originated - but there's always next time.

Panorama Park Soleil Doldenhorn Penthouse in Wengen, Switzerland: This Airbnb was the highlight of our family trip to Switzerland. This is located in the Lauterbrunnen region in the Swiss Alps with breathtaking views of the mountains, the sound of cow bells, quick stroll from the train station.

Central Garden Villa in Rome: The upstairs feels like a boat and the vibe is perfect. Mid-century Rome. The host’s grandfather previously lived here, and now they rent it out.

The location is incredible, but you don’t even really need to leave because there’s a really sweet courtyard with a kumquat tree. It’s not one of the flashy options that feels like a once in a lifetime stay (and features older house quirks, like a leaky shower and needing to use a blow dryer in the kitchen because of outlets), but it’s easy to pretend that this is just your own home in Monteverde.

Guest suite in Belchertown with lake view: I stayed here on a road trip across the US a few years ago, and it was so, so, so beautiful and tranquil – plus you can swim in the water that's right there!
