Parenting hack: Use the Threat of the Yak

When my kids were little and misbehaving, I’d say, “If you keep doing that, I’ll feed you to the yak!” A little levity while still conveying you mean business is effective. Now that they’re grown, when they don’t return my calls, ignore my texts, or otherwise annoy me, I simply send them this photo.

When Jane Goodall died I lamented our monumental loss to my 20 year old son. He said, “Who?” My heart broke a little and I was filled with remorse. Tell them who you admire and why! (In happy news, he then watched a documentary about her without my prompting.) ❤️

Keeping a chronological list of your child’s first words

My kids were amused by their first words as they got older. We kept a list on the fridge and added to it in order as they spoke them. My daughter’s third word was “party”-I kid you not- so you can imagine what her teenage years were like.

I’m no fan of George W. Bush but I did read once that he brings his wife coffee in bed every morning. I casually mentioned this to my DH and now he occasionally does this for me. I tell him he is one step closer to being the perfect husband when he does.
