shrinking!
•••
this show is just such a warm hug. in case you haven't noticed, everything kinda Sucks Right Now, but when i watch something like shrinking it takes my mind off all that not by refusing to engage with all things awful entirely, but by reminding me of the good that still exists all around us in spite of it and also how we make peace with everyday pain through love, friendship, and lots (lots) of laughter. one of the best ensembles on television today, and this better be the year they give harrison ford his emmy he's deserved for three seasons now. if you're feeling lost and lonely like so many at the moment, this is a great show to start alleviating some of that sadness :)

beef!
•••
went in with sky-expectations for beef season 2 after devouring the lightning-in-a-bottle perfection that was season 1, and even if this can't quite usurp its predecessor, it's still a more than worthy follow-up that successfully broadens the scope of its subject matter and features career-best performances from oscar isaac and cailee spaeny. so many astute observations here on the state of modern romance (with some paralleling my own past so well it made me want to crawl out of my skin - in a good way!) and the endless climb to success and stability in this country that ultimately leaves most unfulfilled anyway. lee sung jin is such a wondrously unpredictable writer - something in short supply these days - and once again took me on one of the wildest rides of the year that left me with another crushing yet also cathartic conclusion. go in as blind as possible and let him take you too.

a knight of the seven kingdoms!
•••
my boyfriend and i are huuuuge game of thrones fans so we were gonna tune in for this no matter what, but given that i was unfamiliar with this specific source material in the world of asoiaf i was relatively unsure of what to expect from this one - and only found myself locked in more and more every single week thanks to its immediately endearing characters, perfectly paced and emotionally layered storytelling, and astonishingly well-staged battle scenes that reminded me of the height of got. both peter claffey and dexter sol ansell do tremendously touching work here, but ansell in particular is such an exciting find - one of the best child performances i've ever seen.

knew i'd be obsessed with this well before pressing play - haven't read elle kennedy's books but i'm such a sucker for frothy escapist romcoms and so easy to please in that subgenre - though even going in that excited couldn't have prepared me for just how much it'd bewitch me body and soul. it's become popular to turn YA/NA romances aimed at women into punching bags on social media for soapy scenes or cheesy dialogue, but i thought this not only managed to check the boxes of the tropes fans were tuning in for tremendously but also deliver genuinely unforgettable and intoxicating chemistry (dean and allie are EVERYTHING) as well as a remarkably mature handling of its deeper themes of sexual trauma and domestic abuse. found myself in tears like six separate times throughout the last two episodes and wasn't prepared for that at all lol. beyond tuned in for season 2 and already ordered all the books too <3
