Smashing Pumpkins - Pisces Iscariot
•••
At least two songs here (Frail & Bedazzled, Hello Kitty Kat) are in the ten best songs the Pumpkins ever released. (Which makes it all the more inexplicable that Corgan left them off Siamese Dream in favor of the doorbell snoozefest that is Disarm.)

Pixies - Complete B Sides: 1988-97

Pixies B-sides are better than most bands’ A-sides.

FIP Radio
•••
Human-curated radio station from Paris with no ads, no announcements, no news. Incredibly eclectic: in the last half hour they’ve played Jimmy Cliff, Janis Joplin, Jonathan Richman, and David Bowie. My new commute soundtrack. Listen via the Radio France app.

Maroon 5 - Moves Like Jagger

I am ambivalent at best about Maroon 5, but this song grabs my attention every single time.

I defy anyone to listen to this song all the way through and have a bad day. It’s scientifically impossible.

Frank. Basie. Quincy. ‘Nuff said. (Also this is the single best rendition of I’ve Got You Under My Skin by anyone ever in the entire history of the universe, no correspondence will be entered into, the end.)

California Nights (Best Coast)
•••
Not the most lyrically complex album, but big crunchy guitars and singalong choruses aplenty. If I want to kick my day off in a good mood, this is what I listen to.

The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan
•••
A truly astounding number of all-time classics, with a few genuinely funny tunes for seasoning. For me, the sheer density of genius on display here (not to mention the fact that he was 22 when he recorded it) makes this the greatest Dylan album.
