Glenmalure Lodge
•••
If you’re walking the Wicklow Way, or visiting Glenmalure or Glendalough, do yourself a favor and stop here for the food. We stayed the night after our third day of hiking and while there was surprisingly interesting art on the walls, the accommodations were charmingly comfy and basic. The food, though. Everything we ordered was homemade and delicious. Hand-breaded cod and perfectly cooked fries. Tender lamb and fresh veggies. It was simple and just good.

The Coach House, Roundwood, Co. Wicklow
•••
One of four Georgian coaching inns in this little County Wicklow village. The Coach House has been expanded from its original footprint and includes 6 charming rooms, a Michelin-recognized restaurant, and a cafe+market. Roundwood is about 1.5 miles off the Wicklow Way, well worth the detour for a good meal and comfortable night.

Seagulls are the main character of Dublin
•••
The herring gulls rule Dublin, and I love the gross and hilarious little beasts. They’re everywhere at all hours: I heard one croaking at 3:30am and watched one call from a rooftop at 11pm. The tall buildings apparently feel like their home cliffs and there’s a steady supply of trash can contents to plunder. The guy pictured horked a whole sandwich down the hatch as part of an absolute massacre of picnickers in St Stephen’s Green. It was a sight to behold.
