Alameda Antiques Fair

Every first Sunday of the month, full of treasures and finds! My house is full of delightful things I got at this market and we make it a routine to go almost every month just to peruse and eat tasty food and be outside.

local, small time sports
•••
Look I know RecLeague is not... sporty. But here's a genuine recommendation even if you're not that into sports: find a local, semi-pro league team to get into. Ultimate Frisbee! USL Soccer! There are two new women's volleyball leagues in the US! Roller Derby! The Bay Area now has a lower-level hockey team called the Oakland Skates! Minor league baseball! Tickets are cheap, you get to root for some folks genuinely it in for the love of the game, you leave the house, there's usually a really fun fan community. You don't have to spend $150 on Warriors (or even Valkyries) tickets! Go see some people doing cool shit, eat a hotdog, make some new friends.

agate beach for tidepooling
•••
This is my favorite spot in the Bay Area to go tide pooling. There are better places if you're willing to drive 3+ hours but for something accessible from Oakland/SF you really can't beat Agate Beach in Bolinas. I have seen SO many incredible nudibranchs here, including this gorgeous Ceratodoris rosacea recently.

Chapel of the Chimes
•••
This is one of the most gorgeous places in Oakland. It's a mausoleum, so be cool and respectful, but you can go in and walk around any time they're open. It was designed by Julia Morgan, who also designed Hearst Castle. Sometimes they even have concerts here, and if you can go to one of those DO IT.

tarantula hike
•••
It's tarantula mating season in the Bay Area which means you're much more likely to see the males out and about looking for hot spider sex. A few hikes that I'd recommend if you wanna go spider looking (or to avoid if you do NOT): Mitchell Canyon Staging Area at Mt. Diablo Black Diamond Mines in Pittsburg Almaden Quicksilver County Park in San Jose Go right before dusk. Avoid crowds. Behold the horny spidies. (also I was gonna put a cool spider pic here but then I realized that some people might not like that)

Go see the Welwitschia at the UC Berkeley botanical garden
•••
Important news!!! The Welwitschia at UCB Botanical gardens is coning for the first time since they got it in 1989!!!! These are some of the longest living plants in the entire world and they live in the remote and ancient Namib desert. Fun story: I was in Namibia this spring and saw some on the side of the road and screamed “stop!!!! Pull over!!!!” and my friends got scared until I told them all about this amazing plant.

COYOTE Calendar
•••
Please forgive this blatant self promotion but I really think the COYOTE Calendar is a great way to find things to do in the Bay Area! I put a lot of heart into it, and have been told it reads like a love letter to the Bay each week.
