Lived there for two years and my favorite spots are:: Circle Round - consignment that’s well curated and not too far from where you’ll be. I’ve found so many goodies here over the years!

Deep Lake - also well curated consignment but usually with higher tier brands so slightly more $$ but you can find some really cool things here

Crossroads Trading - there are a few locations but I like the one near Burnside on the western part of town. It’s less curated but the prices are great. I find something every time I set foot in here. And it’s close to Zupans

Zupans - expensive, wonderful large grocery store

Providore - expensive, wonderful small grocery store

Han Oak - vibey restaurant with amazing food that changes seasonally

Lucce - probably my favorite restaurant?

Yaowarat - please get everything on the menu, especially the chive cakes

Bellweather Bar - French bistro style restaurant and the people who work here are always super friendly

My. Tabor Park, Laurelhurst Park, and/or Forest Park for nature walks in the city

Cheese & Crack Snack Shop: The best soft serve, and it happens to be in Kerns. Get it in a cone (dusted) or in a sundae; I usually go for the monthly special or the banana pudding.

Fancy treats at Providore: After teaching a class, may I suggest a wander down the block to Providore Fine Foods, Portland’s fanciest shmanciest grocer. There are lots of treats to be found here, but I recommend some exorbitantly expensive potato chips — the Breton Jura are my fav. Get some a glass of wine to go with if that’s your speed, or grab an esoteric bubbly bev. Grab yourself a silly little candy at the checkout too.

If you need something more substantial, Arrostro is good, and the deli always has some goods.

Heart Coffee is a quick little jaunt over on Burnside, too, and our most Scandinavian option!

Bye and Bye Portland: Former Portland local here and that was my neighborhood :)

Bye and Bye is my go to, their grains/veg/tofu bowls are so good! (portland bars are required to sell food and a lot if it is v good).

Bollywood Theater for amazing Indian food (the salad with crispy rice), the Knock Back is a fun bar with an analog photobooth, Petite Provance for a croissant, Collage craft supplies, Green Been Books is a kids book shop with adorable little dioramas built into the book shelves, Alberta Co-op for groceries/snacks, and Radio Room has a nice rooftop.

Also recommend walking over to Mississippi ave: Ruby Jewel ice cream (skip Salt and Straw imo), Interurban is another bar with great food and fancy jello shots.

Fly Awake Tea House: That whole area is great! Lots of food carts and shops.

Fly Awake is a little gem. Hippy tea house with tons of reasonable tastings. Hope you enjoy!!
