The Pantry for blue corn masa pancakes and green chile in Santa Fe: This is my favorite spot for food in town! Tru Treasures of Santa Fe, right next door to the original location, is also an awesome vintage store.

Additionally, I highly recommend doing day trips to the surrounding countryside if you’ve got a car — the hike at Jemez Springs is one of the most beautiful I’ve ever done, and I haven’t been because it was closed for a long time post-Covid but Bandalier National Monument looks incredible. Taos Pueblo is fascinating and the fry bread sold by vendors there is delicious, too.

Georgia O’Keeffe’s home in New Mexico: Case in point, the most beautiful home I’ve ever been to. This was the place she lived for most of her last 35 years and apparently viewed as a sort of canvas. The kitchen is wonderfully retro, the fireplaces are magical, and the setting — with an irrigated garden that’s authentic to the Pueblo in which the plot is located — is fascinating, too.

Plus, nearby Ghost Ranch has incredible vistas and really great hiking options.

sopapillas with honey butter at tomasita’s: one of our friends is from santa fe and this is the first restaurant he took us to when we visited! the food is great, the cocktails are massive, but the sopapillas… oof. life changing. they come with the honey butter and they’re impossible not to devour

Chaco Culture National Historical Park: Chaco Canyon is one of my favorite places to visit and completely underrated and far too unknown. It was a hub of the ancestral Pueblo peoples and now you can visit  3000 year old buildings, ruins, and petroglyphs, beautiful mesas, and go on some great hikes. It is an International Dark Sky, so you can enjoy the stars in all their glory. I’ve been twice and it feels electric and powerful to visit.

My sister and I once visited and serendipitously it was an equinox. We were able to witness sunrise through the rock doors, just as the original people had designed.

Santa Fe recs: Santa Fe is so fun (I’m from Albuquerque)! Highly recommend the Georgia O’keeffe museum and Collected Works Bookstore. Jambo Cafe is a must! Tomasita’s or The Pantry for New Mexican food. Iconik Coffee and Bread Shop are also cool spots!

Bandelier National Monument: Incredible petroglyphs and cave dwellings. It's about 40 minutes from Santa Fe, but totally worth it. You can climb into some of the dwellings and in the museum you can learn more about the native plants and history of the Ancestral Pueblo people.
