Ira Glass on Taste
•••
I think about this essay from Ira Glass all the time when it comes to the aspect of creative work I’ve shortened to “the taste gap.” As a creative I’m constantly training my eye to recognize the difference between what I know is great and my own good work, which motivates me to get better and close the gap.

Adult Coloring Book & Colored Pencils
•••
I received an adult coloring book and a pack of colored pencils as a gift a few years back and it was honestly one of the best things I’ve been given. It’s pleasant to do with music on, easy to pick up and put down as the mood strikes (no prep or clean up required) and puts me in a meditative/creative mode as I experiment with different color combinations, shading techniques, etc. Also super easy to throw in a suitcase for a lo-fi activity when traveling.

The Runaway Bunny (Margaret Wise Brown)
•••
I adore this book both for so many reasons. The wonderful illustrations are imaginative and beautifully colored; and the message of enduring parental love in the midst of kid boundary-testing is so gently reassuring. It’s in my top 5 gifts I give to new parents or anyone building a home library.

Life After Life by Kate Atkinson
•••
This book is astonishingly good - intriguing, beautifully written, poignant. Once it captured me I couldn’t put it down.
