My husband still doesn’t understand why I need to be a little bit scared to fall asleep. And I don’t think he ever will! But if you do, come on in cutie. These are the pods I like because they’re nuanced and odd and don’t laboriously describe lacerations on angelic dead women. I never want to hear “her smile lit up a room” again, okay!? And I never really did.
There is more podcast audio being created every week than there are hours in our lifetimes, but this one is an always-on, appointment listening, whole hearted recommendation. If you use, love (and loathe) the internet, this is a show you should hear. Made by very talented lovely people.

Reply All was truly the most interesting podcast of all time. Since ended but the whole catalog is full of bangers. PJ has Search Engine but it’s not the same 😢

Creative, fascinating, deeply researched, surprising, funny — I love them all. Other all time favs: Mystery Show, Heavyweight and Storytime with Seth Rogen.
I’ve been listening to ear hustle since day 1 and it continues to be surprising, thought provoking, and life affirming. This show by turn cuts to the bone (ie facilitating conversations between perpetrators and victims) and engages lighthearted curiosity (ie the care & keeping of a pet bird in prison). Over the past 9 years (!) I have listened while working in jails and not, and this show is always engaging big questions about forgiveness, survival, storytelling…and never feigns to answer them. Recommend!!!

Only if you’ve been on a desert island would you have missed the phenomena that is Normal Gossip. The best for high drama gossip that takes odd turns.
My favorite podcast in the whole world. Two gay comedians analyze straight culture. Brings me so much comfort and joy. And will have you wondering if hardwood floors are gay or straight.

The perfect podcast. The host reads a poem, talks about the poem, and then reads the poem again. Some episodes are like attending a mini poetry lecture with a funny, warm, and Irish professor. Others feel like church, in the best way. I never regret a listen.

Some of the most riveting storytelling and impressive investigative journalism I’ve ever come across. Truly anwesome and just gutsy. Season two is a tour de force but season one is just amazing.
This is the podcast that got me into podcasts. Hrishikesh Hirway does such a great job with research and the guests and Joshua Molina is funny and has great stories from being on the show/his relationship with Aaron Sorkin. I love the West Wing and I love this podcast. Wish I had discovered it when it was out originally so I could’ve gone to a live show.

Some of the pods I listen to because they’re breaking news. Some, I become obsessed with the single minded focus of the oddball hosts. This Canadian man dives into missing persons cases with the kind of staccato poetry that would put him right at home in an episode of The Rehearsal and I am transfixed.
