There is more podcast audio being created every week than there are hours in our lifetimes, but this one is an always-on, appointment listening, whole hearted recommendation. If you use, love (and loathe) the internet, this is a show you should hear. Made by very talented lovely people.

Reply All was truly the most interesting podcast of all time. Since ended but the whole catalog is full of bangers. PJ has Search Engine but it’s not the same 😢

I’ve been listening to ear hustle since day 1 and it continues to be surprising, thought provoking, and life affirming. This show by turn cuts to the bone (ie facilitating conversations between perpetrators and victims) and engages lighthearted curiosity (ie the care & keeping of a pet bird in prison). Over the past 9 years (!) I have listened while working in jails and not, and this show is always engaging big questions about forgiveness, survival, storytelling…and never feigns to answer them. Recommend!!!

Only if you’ve been on a desert island would you have missed the phenomena that is Normal Gossip. The best for high drama gossip that takes odd turns.
My favorite podcast in the whole world. Two gay comedians analyze straight culture. Brings me so much comfort and joy. And will have you wondering if hardwood floors are gay or straight.

The perfect podcast. The host reads a poem, talks about the poem, and then reads the poem again. Some episodes are like attending a mini poetry lecture with a funny, warm, and Irish professor. Others feel like church, in the best way. I never regret a listen.

Some of the most riveting storytelling and impressive investigative journalism I’ve ever come across. Truly anwesome and just gutsy. Season two is a tour de force but season one is just amazing.
My classic comfort listen.
Aubrey Gordon and Michael Hobbes get into the nitty gritty of the world of wellness with humor, wit, thorough research, and genuine curiosity. We get information thrown at us all day and they debunk the junk science behind it all. I love how they focus on that fact that we all have different bodies, experiences, abilities, and needs (I meaaaaan!). Each episode is a thorough deep dive on a certain health trend or moment (ie. Biggest Loser) where they provide research and history on said topic. You’re left having learned the full history of raw milk and laughed a lot along the way. Real good stuff.

One of the best out there when it comes to storytelling. Heavyweight’s episodes focus on an individual and a defining moment or person in their life—a car accident, a summer in Italy with a stranger-turned-friend, witnessing a terrible injury in the ER, being on a jury, finding a suitcase full of love letters—and the stories that grew from those moments. Each episode is so full of compassion and humanity. Mummy and Daddy, a lot of pods are fun to get a parasocial buzz, but Steven and Lily are no-skips funny. They make a boring subject hilarious, and a funny subject, a potential car crash

Avery Trufelman is a genius. She uses fashion to dissect why and how our clothes tell a greater story about who we are as wearers, creators, and citizens. Her latest season on outerwear broke down how our military financed the technology of outerwear which eventually led to a fascinating breakdown of our responsibility to veterans and what other government programs could learn from their care.

So well researched, so thoughtful and empathetic. Every episode looks at a sliver of American culture and history and dissects it, figuring out where we went wrong in our collective memory of it.

This podcast has such great story telling and host chemistry. Personal favorites among the episodes I’ve listened to… Costco, IKEA, Indian Premier League Cricket, Rolex and Trader Joe’s.
No better way to pass the time with your elderly parents in the car (am I the only person spending a lot of time with my elderly parents in the car?). Insanely cozy British guys knowing everything about history and making it fun. Loved the Joan of Arc and Harald Hardrada series.

Lonely Island and Seth Meyers Podcast is pure fun, joy, and silliness. As a millennial who grew up with the advent of YouTube, had her humor and sensibilities shaped by SNL shorts, laughed to “jizz in my pants” on repeat in dorm rooms, and had (has) a major crush on Andy - this pod’s a dream come true. I love getting to hear about the boys’ inspiration and creative process…and it’s very fun to get some behind the scenes gossip on the cast, hosts, and musical guests of SNL’s golden era. It feels like hanging out with your funniest friends. More than once I’ve looked like an absolute lunatic while listening as I’m walking down the street alone, in conversation with no one, shaking (and sometimes crying) with laughter. Well worth looking like the Joker for!!
