Five Points Artisan Bakeshop: I just moved back to Pittsburgh and have yet to go, but this is the place I see on everyone’s list of bakeries!

Local coffee shops: There are lots of great coffee shops in Pittsburgh! Some of my favorites:

Commonplace Coffee. The Squirrel Hill location is great for people-watching, assuming the weather cooperates.

Biddle's Escape. Fun and funky. The food and drinks are solid, but you really go here for the ambiance.

De Fer. They roast their own coffee, and serve pastry from La Gourmandine (best French bakery in town!).

Tazza d'Oro. Might be the best espresso in Pittsburgh.

Columbino. Fabulous coffee and Colombian food. Go to the Lawrenceville location and enjoy your treats while exploring the neighborhood.

Alma Mercantile: Great home goods and some clothing items. Right next to one of my favorite bakeries, Butterwood Bake Consortium. Check out Allegheny Wine Mixer a few blocks away too!

Madeleine’s: Delicious and cute French bakery located in Regent’s Square. Grab a coffee and pastries and sit in the square, then check out Workshop, a small home goods store, and one of my all-time favorite bookstores, Fungus Books and Records, all within 500 feet.

Butterjoint: Every couple of years it seems this restaurant (and its casual breakfast spot next door) has a bit of an identity crisis; I still miss the OG, Legume, which was white tablecloth and one of the very best meals I’ve ever had (that Chicken Cooked Under a Brick!!). But Butterjoint is very solid. Get the pierogis to be extra Pittsburgh. Vinegar pie is very fun, too.
