Splurgy but you'll have it for life. Can be customized with extra pockets, longer/shorter straps, fringy clips. The metal pieces are pure brass. Sewn in Sonoma County. Visit the shop in Petaluma and you'll likely meet the owner Jennifer. Excellent, patient service will support you as you agonize over choices. Or order online. I got the raw leather and am looking forward to it aging beautifully over the years, along with my own self.

Supporting Small Theater (and Other Impracticalities)

A few nights ago, a traveling theater troupe came to my small town in Northern California and set up a makeshift stage in a farmer's field. For one night only, as the sun set of over the field and illuminated the stage, they put on a farcical play with larger than human puppets, a wildly careening plot narrated by an all-observing fly (on the wall,) and a cast of talented actors who played multiple roles. It was sublime. Support small theater. Support the odd, the whimsical, the inconvenient, the imperfect, the magical, the somebody's crazy dream. Or start one of your own if time, talent, and treasure provide. This is what will save us. Pictured: String and Shadow Puppet Theater, Buckeye Family Ranch

Admittedly, I haven't finished it yet but oh, how beautiful! How exquisitely, achingly human! Every detail observed but nothing extra. A perfect kiss, a punch in the gut.
