A few nights ago, a traveling theater troupe came to my small town in Northern California and set up a makeshift stage in a farmer's field. For one night only, as the sun set of over the field and illuminated the stage, they put on a farcical play with larger than human puppets, a wildly careening plot narrated by an all-observing fly (on the wall,) and a cast of talented actors who played multiple roles. It was sublime.
Support small theater. Support the odd, the whimsical, the inconvenient, the imperfect, the magical, the somebody's crazy dream. Or start one of your own if time, talent, and treasure provide. This is what will save us.
