Supporting Small Theater (and Other Impracticalities)
A few nights ago, a traveling theater troupe came to my small town in Northern California and set up a makeshift stage in a farmer's field. For one night only, as the sun set of over the field and illuminated the stage, they put on a farcical play with larger than human puppets, a wildly careening plot narrated by an all-observing fly (on the wall,) and a cast of talented actors who played multiple roles. It was sublime. Support small theater. Support the odd, the whimsical, the inconvenient, the imperfect, the magical, the somebody's crazy dream. Admittedly, I haven't finished it yet but oh, how beautiful! How exquisitely, achingly human! Every detail observed but nothing extra. A perfect kiss, a punch in the gut.
