Not to toot my own horn, but I won 3rd place in the 2020 Chicago Tribune cookie contest for this recipe. Readers voted on recipes, then judges had to bake and eat them. Yes, I should have an accent on the e. But these cookies are very good and worth the effort! People love them.

These are divine and the sleeper hit always. People are skeptical and then fanatical. I have seen another Rec for these on here for good reason! Cutting them small is good because they are rich. They freeze extremely well, so you can make ahead and have a plate or box ready for a party or gift in no time. I made these for my brother’s wedding at the request of the bride and groom and have put them in my cookie boxes for the last 4 years.

I am obsessed with this. It’s great hot or cold. It’s good with a simple side salad or to stick to your bones with some potatoes or a nice piece of bread and butter. It’s great as leftovers for lunch. I love the cozy British name. Make this for yourself and your loved ones - even my Dad who claims he must have meat at dinner likes this as a meal.
