Rewatch Mad Men
•••
I just finished rewatching Mad Men for the first time since it aired, and I can’t believe how differently it hits this time around. The sexism bothers me much more; the wounded spirits I find equally more sympathetic and more frustrating; I’m so much more invested in Betty’s well-being and curious about where Megan ended up. I’m disappointed with Pete and Trudy’s storyline. I hope Sally and Bobby and Gene find tenderness in their lives. In general, I’m feeling a bit heartbroken. Anyone else recently found a new point of view on the show? Do share.

Nadia Quinn: Human Design And How To Be Yourself
•••
Artist Hallie Bateman recently shared through her newsletter that Human Design has felt transformative to her, so I listened to this episode and looked up Nadia Quinn’s work. I don’t know where I land on all of it, but I always appreciate ways to gain insight into ourselves and each other and this framework offers a perspective different from the enneagram, astrology, Meyers-Briggs, etc.

Yesteryear by Caro Claire Burke
•••
I would love a rundown of the research that went into this. Burke includes so many details and intimacies of this micro-culture that put words to passing almost-thoughts I’ve had. I found it incredibly satisfying. Couldn’t read it fast enough.

What’s Missing From Belle Burden’s “Strangers”
•••
I haven’t pinpointed why I’m so invested in Burden’s story, but the book and this article have my full attention. is it the extreme wealth (and seeming ignorance to it)? Glimpse into these social circles? Their marriage dynamic and the drama of its end? The “what if it happened to me” element? And now with this journalism, am I tugged back in because I’m not so sympathetic anymore? Or curious about Burden’s motivation to author this in the first place? A lot to still unpack.
