Best carseats / carriers for squirmy and attached little dogs? I tried a basket style one once but he got tangled in all the straps. My 15 lb bundle of joy wants to just sit on my lap, but after a fender bender last night, we’re avoiding that now!

Snoozer Lookout I Dog Car Seat

My dog loved this car seat because it raised him up high enough to look out of the window. It fastens to the seatbelt so it stays put and has a secure strap to attach to the leash and is lined with cozy, washable fleece.

Pidan expandable backpack carrier
•••
Most importantly by far, my cat adores this - it’s one of her favorite places to hang out, period. She feels safe and comfy, and once you’re a cat person you know that that is a HIGH bar for carriers. This Chewy bed is a perfect fit inside, and adds a ton of comfort. I also love that it’s both a backpack style (much easier for schlepping) and expandable. You can even fit a small travel-size litter box inside the expanded side. All that said, the carrier isn’t a *perfect* design - but I followed the lead of an Amazon reviewer who suggests adding a board to the inside of the “floor” to stabilize it and not sag under the cat’s weight, and it’s made a massive difference. Feel free to message if you’d like more deets about how I did that. It also isn’t technically TSA-approved, though I have gone on over a dozen flights (comfortably! My girl likes to travel, funnily enough) and never had an issue. All in all, I truly recommend it, albeit with these caveats.

Mesh car crate for anxious dogs
•••
After a LOT of trial and error, this is the only thing I have found that keeps my anxious rescue pup reasonably calm and safe in the car. It wore out after a few years and I immediately replaced it. She is 50 lb and the large fits well, but they have other sizes that I imagine would work well for smaller pups! It's also pretty light and easy to fold up. She used to cry and jump all over the car or tangle herself in her harness, and this makes driving a lot safer and easier for both of us!
