Le Labo Body Cream - Basil
•••
this is the only scent I've liked since the Ouai Shibuya scent. So clean, calming, classy. also very rich and thick and incredibly moisturizing. use sparingly (I wish I didn't have to).

I get very anal about the wax paper sleeve getting crinkled. perfect for the bedside because it can stay in a neat, uncrumpled stack.

random restaurant pen

platonic ideal pen. what is it even? perfect basic ballpoint? the ones where the ink dries after like 10 uses? it writes smooth as butter and they usually come branded with cute graphics (like this one).

A Marriage At Sea
•••
currently reading and very engaged. beyond the gripping survival story at the core of the plot, I am (ironically) very comforted by this nautical world building, even if they're literally lost at sea. I like the part where she makes a list of all the 22 tins of food they have on board, and how she calculates their water rations. I relax to the routine of them repainting and repacking their ship at every port. The simplicity of living at sea. I've dog eared a few quietly hilarious passages, and a few incredibly poignant ones. I really like her style of writing. curious for each and every page!

MORE by Barbara Crooker

the first book of poems I ever liked. devoured! discovered its thin spine at the Great Falls Public Library in 2018. I still love it; it keeps me company.

Early Work by Andrew Martin
•••
I'll read anything this guy writes! chuggable, astute story about being a listless, overly educated twenty/thirty something who can't tell heads from tails but is trying though.

The Wedding People
•••
I found this book so endearing. I wasn't expecting to like it so much (I hate the cover art) (I also hate whenever fiction references the pandemic. it feels like uncanny valley - weirdly crossing the fourth wall). throughout reading this I genuinely looked forward to slipping into this hopeful, tender, empathetic, gentle, sturdy world. the story somehow avoided corny and just felt genuinely and earnestly tender (saying that word again). it touched me!

The Anthropologists by Aysegül Savas
•••
although this started off slightly liberal arts whiny (coming from a liberal arts whiner), this was full of profound moments. such a cozy, familiar world where you and your two closest friends (/lovers) gather around beers and chips at dusk every day. (also very European which I had to get over -- cigarettes at the cafe type shi). about the meanderings of friendship, the longevity of family, the despair of growing up and old. questioning how to live and what to live for and who to live your life alongside.

All She Was Worth by Miyuki Miyabe
•••
I learned a lot more about like Japanese tax law than I ever expected. masterfully crafted mystery by a female author in this masculine ass canon.
