Extra Butter
•••
A+ sneakers and many-gender-friendly streetwear that doesn't feel overcooked, with emphasis on limited drops, unusual colorways and fabrics, and a surprisingly killer selection of nonleather standards (ask me about my satin Valentine's Day AF1s); the only place I buy shoes in person. Somehow they sold me my favorite FACTS lapel pin, too? The space has an excellent minimalist vibe that isn't try-hard, as well. West side of Orchard north of Delancey.

BonBon LES
•••
The very best way to spend a fortune on a sack of Swedish pick-and-mix candy is to spend a week in Stockholm and go to the grocery store every day. The SECOND best way, especially if you're fixated on vegetarian-friendly sour candy in general and BUBS in particular, is to hit BonBon. You want: Any skulls they've got, especially if they're foamy or cola; sour tongues; sour grapefruit bottles; cola pacifiers; sour pear soda; sour cherries. The pink bags are nice and bright, so if you're awake in the wee hours and want to grab a palmful of Swedish candy and watch your neighborhood sleeping in the moonlight through the window, for example, you won't have to turn the kitchen light on and spoil your night vision.

Sweet Pickle Books
•••
A jar of the spicy Farmhouse Pickles - their best variety, and my favorite in the neighborhood (fighting words, I know) - is $12.95, or you can trade books for pickles, and that's the kind of bartering I can get behind. Required browsing for a neighborhood book crawl, and an impeccable destination for local souvenirs. Fuck Amazon.

Barrio Chino
•••
The best Mexican on the LES; a killer, spicy-ass mezcal and habanero grapefruit margarita if you drink booze, excellent agua de jamaica if you don't. I am committed to the sincronizada with huitlacoche, but I've never, ever been disappointed at Barrio Chino, and I've been rolling up since 2009. Veggie-friendly, inventive, kind.

Economy Candy
•••
The neighborhood's family-owned candy HQ since 1937, and my haunt since I realized they have an incomparable selection of imported vegan Haribo (it's all about the Super Gurken; weird texture but the flavors are on point) and about two dozen varieties of Katjes gummis (you want the Alpaka Cola). Old-school everything in abundance, and a pretty spectacular array of Kolsvart Swedish fish, too. VEGGIE GUMMIES AND SOURS FOR EVERYBODY.
