Mary Sully
•••
I recently stumbled across a Mary Sully exhibition and fell in love with her work. Sully was a Dakota Sioux artist best known for her "Personality Portraits" which are triptychs that capture the essence of a person or just an idea- one I saw recently was entitled "Highway Rudeness" and captured just that. In a sadly familiar story, she didn't achieve much recognition during her lifetime. But it is a treat to see her work now. The Mary Sully Foundation (linked) is working to preserve and share her work, as well as champion emerging native artists.

Emery Blagdon
•••
Fellow Nebraskan Emery Blagdon's Healing Machines really speak to me. He believed that his pieces had the power to heal, and visitors to the shed that they were housed in claim they could feel the energy shift in the space. <3
