Growing your own rhubarb
•••
The ROI on rhubarb is insane. It’s very hard to kill, grows even when neglected, and you get multiple harvests out of one summer. We have made rhubarb infused syrup, rhubarb martinis, rhubarb strawberry crisp, and we are still figuring out how to use all this rhubarb!

Getting to know your neighbors
•••
If you’re looking for people with shared interests and who are in a similar season of life as you… look no further than next door. You all chose the same neighborhood for a reason! For a lot of our grandparents, their best friends were their neighbors. We’ve made good friends in our neighborhood, and showing our kids the value of branching out and jumping out of our comfort zone has paid off. It’s also just convenient. We’re close with our next-door neighbors, and we help each other out — sometimes the kids play here so their parents can get stuff done, sometimes ours play over there. We also do impromptu, low-key joint dinner nights, which are some of my favorites. We’ve spent holidays together too, like New Year’s and a Fourth of July pizza party outside. It’s all very organic and easy, because they’re right next door — not a lot of planning necessary. That being said: Introduce yourself first. Invite people over. Go to the block party. Be the “weird” ones, I promise it’s worth it.

Garden bouquet for a friend
•••
My best friend recently had a baby and I was going to stop at the Flower Market to pick up an arrangement and then I thought wait a second I should check my own backyard first. Here’s what I came up with! This bouquet features my own garden’s mint, basil, pansies, and marigolds. Plus some fireweed and whatever those purple tall flowers are that grow in my backyard. Special shout out to the one and only peony that sprouted from my friend’s garden and the lovely columbines I found on the side of the road by her house. This exercise made me feel like a true forager and it was fun to see how such a unique bouquet could be created without spending a dime!

Avene cicalfate

This stuff is life changing. I bought while in Paris on recommendation from the pharmacie and it really works for so many purposes. At first I would use on dry and cracked skin in the winter (face and body) but where this stuff really shines is in the summer! If you get a sunburn or your skin just feels tight from the sun - apply it before bed and it feels a million times better in the morning.

tin can phone
•••
We bought each of our kids one of these for Christmas and it’s been the gift of the year by far! But where the phones have really come in handy is over the summer. The kids stay connected with friends and family, but most special of all is our next door neighbors kiddos also have one - so the kids call each other to arrange their own play dates which makes me so nostalgic for my childhood it’s not even funny 🥲

Putting your kids in little league ⚾️
•••
Okay, hear me out. If you had asked me a decade ago what I thought my life would look like now, I never would have guessed I’d be this passionate about suburban Little League baseball. Our son has played since he was four. He’s eight now, and this was the first season I truly loved it. We moved to this neighborhood last year and, mostly out of convenience, joined our local league. I never expected how much community, connection, and joy it would bring into our lives. We made friends, got to know families in our neighborhood, learned every teammate’s name, and found ourselves cheering each kid on and celebrating their progress and effort. It reminded me that community isn’t something you stumble upon - it’s something you build. The season is over now, and honestly, I don’t know what I’ll do without it as the anchor of our week.

vida e bike in happy mint
•••
An e-bike was on my wishlist for SO long. We finally pulled the trigger so we could bike down to the baseball fields and hit the trails as a family this summer. This is well worth the money (plus I got mine on clearance!) because it gets your body moving and gets you outside with less effort and strain than a regular bike. You end up wanting to ride more often and longer when you don’t have to work as hard on those hills!
