“For my 40th birthday, my husband got me the Ricoh GR IV. It’s the newest in Ricoh’s cult GR line, a pocketable APS-C compact camera with a sharp 28mm equivalent f2.8 lens and a 25.7-megapixel sensor. It’s that rare camera that delivers real image quality in something around the size of a deck of cards. This generation finally adds 5-axis IBIS (in-body image stabilization) up to six stops, a new GR Engine 7 processor, a lightning-quick 0.6-second startup, and 53GB of internal storage so you can shoot without a card. What people seem to love most about the GR series is that is disappears in your hand, wakes up instantly for the shots you’d otherwise miss on the go, focuses fast, and produces hyper crisp, contrasty, film-like JPEGs (+RAW files) straight out of camera. I’ll report back once I’ve properly lived with it a bit longer, but my early impressions are, this thing is a joy to use. Buy it.”
