“Ya bish! I knew this track/album/artist would be an all timer as soon as recognized the (reversed) sample from Beach House's gorgeous 'Silver Soul'. That disconnected, almost biblical "the one in front of the gun, lives forever". That Dominoes bit at the end. Incredible stuff. Which makes it all the more incredible that Jay Rock, lesser celebrated member of TDE, completely hijacks this vulnerable Kendrick track detailing his susceptibility to street life. Jay goes off. Incredible rhythm, lived emotion — you can feel just how much he truly cares if only by how much he makes out of his 50 seconds. Verse begins at: 4:26 Choice bar: "Broken promises, steal your watch and tell you what time it is. Take your J's and tell you to kick it where a Foot Locker is." “When you hear Kendrick’s early desire to land Jay Rock on a track as a mentor and someone he looked up to, it’s dope to see one of Kendrick’s best songs is where someone else has a better verse than him - almost on purpose. killer track, killer story telling.”
