“I don’t know if there has been a recent leap forward in stud finder technology or I was always using the cheap ones but you, the consumer, can now buy a device that will tell you with high reliability not just “there is a bit of metal someplace nearby in this wall” but actually “there is a board that starts just here and ends just here”. Is it ultrasonic or something? Sure, I don’t know, but it is the first one I’ve ever used that just works like this. In my ancient home, with plaster walls and let’s say uh, rugged individualist framing, this thing is a lifesaver. Get the fancy stud finder if you don’t have one already.”
