Hannah“This made me ugly cry in the theater, and I didn’t even try to fight it. Made me feel nostalgia + grief for all the past, current, future versions of me that will never get to exist and all the people I’ll never get to love. While of course creating the feeling of love for the version that does exist. Beautiful movie 😭”

Luke Baker“When my wife and I finished this, we looked at each other and said, “that was perfect.” No notes. Tender and melancholic story of what could have been.”

Cat Kesman“Past Lives is still my current favorite movie — sobbed for a good :30 min after it ended before discussing with a friend for another hour. Captures longing and our lack of control so authentically.”

Zoë Rose Bryant“probably the movie that inspired me most while writing good friends with the exception of boyhood. while the idea for the novel had been bouncing around my brain for a bit, seeing past lives - and its depiction of childhood friends-to-lovers torn apart by time and reconnecting as adults and making sense of what they meant to each other now - helped cement the structure of the story in my mind and what its ultimate message would be. without giving away too much, the novel's resolution was greatly informed by how past lives resolved its own "one who got away" narrative (similar to la la land before it) and the belief that "you don't only get one love in this life, but you never forget your first."”

The Analog Collective“This is a perfect movie. I don't know what else to say. It's a small story that tells a bigger story. I found it so affecting and beautiful.”
Nana & Bird“Beautiful reticence displayed by the 2 leads”
