She is, however, a retired English teacher and forever reader so when my 5 yo expressed interest in reading we decided to try it out. It turns out the 17,000+ positive reviews on Amazon don’t actually lie. This book teaches YOU exactly how to teach them and it WORKS. I never realized that knowing letter sounds has nothing to do with understanding sound blending and that that’s a key part of reading. YMMV but for my daughter this book single handedly taught her to read and probably only made it through 30 lessons.”
