“For half a century, the slogan was everywhere, in ads for everything from Nash's Toasted Coffee and Bond Bread to Meadow Gold Ice Cream, Mazola Oil and Pro-Phy-Lac-Tic Toothbrushes. "Untouched by human hands" promised consumers that sterile industrial machinery automated production making human touch unnecessary. It's a process we still see in shows like How It's Made: foods and products manufactured on assembly lines made fast, uniform, pristine, tempting. Above: Blue Ribbon Bread ad from 1960.”
