“Part of my Steinbeck phase last year culminated with this amazing compilation of letters he wrote from the late 20s into the late 60s. His writing is imperfect and uninhibited and offers a great window into his brain. The letters give me peace knowing that even one of our greatest writers would often say to himself, “my work is a tremendous failure.” Makes him so much more relatable.”
