“As if I thought Ryan Gosling couldn’t be more charming, he plays such an endearing character in this film. I’m not really an alien space movie gyal, but this one is up there with Mac and Me tbh (anyone remember that one?). Such a delightful story, hopeful and sad and hopeful again. 10/10”

Our kids generally don’t get to see big budget set piece movies because they are too scary, violent, confusing or otherwise emotionally manipulative in a way that feels bad for them. Despite the stakes of this movie (humanity) and the two dead astronauts at the beginning, we watched this first and then decided everyone would enjoy it and it would spark great questions and discussion. For example, the funerals for the astronauts are emotionally honest and handled well. (worth watching first to find your threshold but spoilers that are worth knowing to reassure the little ones: rocky doesn’t die, there’s a happy ending and the ship doesn’t crash)”

“I listened to the book and liked it but LOVED the movie! It is definitely one to see in theaters because the collective effervescence is off-the-charts! I haven’t seen a theater so packed since pre-Covid 🥹🥹🥹 Also definitely one you could bring an older elementary school child to as long as they don’t get overly spooked by suspenseful moments. My 8.5 year old loved it and she rarely likes non-animated films!”
