“Bitter, glamorous, angry, lonely. The feminine tradition of “let’s eat on my bed” is longstanding and in evidence.”

“This is a technicolor nightmare exploring the punishing and tragic nature of loneliness. Fassbender pushes the boundaries of early queer cinema here, urging the audience to wait: to resist judgment that feels too easy to reach. The film is contained but not claustrophobic. The outfits and set design are immaculate. The cinematography is stunning. And above all else the dialogue, story, and performances are breathtaking. One of the best films I’ve seen this year.”
