    “I often think about these essays and especially about Berry’s catastrophic pond that he built with expert advice, in an attempt to be ecologically responsible on the farmland that he was restoring, that ended up being a major calamity for him. I think about how much we try to have control over things, and how insignificant we are to nature; and at the same time, one of Berry’s major tenets of thought is that we can’t abdicate responsibility even in the absence of individual control. We each are responsible for our actions and that’s not mutually exclusive from collective action. Super interesting and discussion-worthy.”
