Kathryn KellyFirst to rec“French butter IS BETTER. Sad news.. I can't find this online. I bring this back from France by freezing it the night before traveling and packing in fabric lunch coolers. You MUST check this to get this home. I also love Maison Bordier butter, esp the smoked salted, and while I know that one is technically more highly acclaimed, I prefer Grand Fermage. It is the holy grail of butter IMO. Not only does French butter have a higher fat content (82%-84% vs 80% in US), the cream is often from cows w/ grass-heavy diets reflecting the regions it's from adding more complexity. Butters w/ cream from Spring and Summer can literally taste more floral. AAAND the cream is cultured, giving it that tangier, almost more cheese-like flavor. It's cultured, higher fat, less water content, and isn't as aggressively processed. All this to say American butter pisses me the ef off & stock up next time you're in Europe. Also, bring me some back please I'm out.”
