Circe

“This book made me feel a lot of emotions. That doesn’t happen often.”

“The myth of Circe has always fascinated me as someone who feels very at home with nonhuman animals and herbs, less so with bio family. Miller’s rendition is so compassionate and descriptive, especially the witchy island scenes. I do think Pigs deserve a little more dignity across the board in human cultures and languages but that’s a story for another time. Miller’s Song of Achilles is a great (beautifully queer) myth as well.”

“This is the first book in a while that I’m eager to read every night.”

“my go-to answer for what’s my favorite book”

“Wonderful book to read after or before watching The Odyssey”

“This book, specifically the audio book is unmatched if you want a cozy listening experience while you garden or do the dishes.”

“I read Madeline Miller's Circe on the beach while on Crete, which was a top tier greek mythology reading experience (and sort of in preperation for seeing the Odyssey)”

“I didn’t think I’d be into a book about Greek mythology but boy was I wrong…and now I’m chasing the high of this book. Exciting and emotional without being tragic.”

“Lyrical and emotional and beautiful.”

“Loved reading this in contrast with The Power.”

“Madeline Miller has written several perspective shift books about minor characters from Greek Mythology. Here, Circe is transformed her from a minor figure into a rich and complex protagonist, who creates a full life as an exile on her island. This could also be a "heroine" novel, so categorize in your own mind as you wish!”

“You’ve probably heard of Madeline Miller’s “The Song of Achilles,” but this is (IMO) better. Perdita Weeks gives an outstanding performance, and her voice is truly beautiful to listen to - crisp and delicate and emotive.”

“Greek mythology, powerful women, herb craft and a mother’s love. I know a book is good when I read it twice. It’s been 6 years since I first read Circe and both times I slammed through it in a matter of days. The story is so visceral, I can taste the waves, the island, the draughts, the wrath of the gods.”

“Simply fantastic.”

“I loved this book, helped me to connect to the grief that I feel in motherhood as my child grows 💗”

“One of the best Greek mythology retellings from the female perspective, absolutely beautiful writing, powerful protagonist and just a perfect reading flow ❤️”

“She is diva”

“love this book”

“So yes, I finally read it. Devoured in about a week. I honestly wish I had read it slower (I guess that is what a re-read is for). Love the author's writing, and loved the story even more. Very autumn, very witchy. Feeling inspired to pick up my herbalist book.”

“storytelling @ its finest”

“Superb”

“A beautifully written version of events from Circe's POV. Her world as a point where other stories we are familiar with intersect and change course. Read for a fully formed female character, plant, animal and power-within magic, fallible gods.”

“A really good book.”

“An absolute corker of a book. Absolutely gripped by this, it transported me and I could barely put it down.”

“Less alone on the winding path”

“On this theme (retelling of myths), I also HIGHLY recommend “A Thousand Ships” by Natalie Haynes and “Hekate” by Nikita Gil.”
