“I read this to my daughter again the other night after not having read it for a while and there's no denying that it's a bop of a book. The rhythm and illustrations are delightful, and the topic is very cute, but let's not kid ourselves, the genius of "Goodnight Moon" is totally "Goodnight nobody / Goodnight mush"; without those pages, it'd be an average bedtime book, but the philosophical weight of the negative space (literally and figuratively) that nobody brings turns "Goodnight Moon" into a classic. And then following it up with mush. Need I really say any more?”
