“If you drive all the way past the east end of Ojai, you’ll eventually come across this tiny red restaurant serving old-school Italian-American food on red-and-white checkered tablecloths. But the real reason I make the drive (it's less than 10 minutes btw, but that's a lot in Ojai) is the seasonal strawberry shortcake: a towering, homemade-looking mess of dense shortcake, whipped cream, and strawberries that has become something of an Ojai institution. Best shared, in my opinion, but not according to my mom, who always insists on her own.”
