“This historical novel about female pirate Mary Reed shies away from clichées. It's historically extremely well researched, very detailed, and embraces the complexity of the period. I especially like how queerness is handled in a very "accurate to the period" manner. The character's fluidity around gender and bisexuality are never named as such, but are both respected and celebrated in the plot.”
