Robert Palmer patiently explains to the voidFirst to rec
“One of the funnier things about Assenti's is watching the hordes of cruise ship passengers come into the store, see the squid ink linguine, go ew, and then order like a pound of plain spaghetti to take home to Omaha or wherever. More for me!
Assentis is more than just squid-ink linguine though -- Italian market, lots of frozen ravioli and sauces, a whole deli case (their Genoa salame is second to none).
If you've never tried it though, you should try some. A half-pound serves four people. Make it with a cream sauce and salmon or shrimp and lots of cheese. A subtle kind of savory quality that's hard to describe. Looks weird, tastes delicious.
(When we lived in LA, I was completely jonesing for squid ink pasta, and Little Dom's squid ink fusili with crawfish, smoked pancetta, fresno Chile and mascarpone was the best.)”
