I think this was made for kids but a friend and I played it to go to sleep on a trip and it worked so well

Wear the orange blue light blocker glasses, and if you want to really go the distance, install circadian-rhythm friendly lights in your bedroom. And leave the phone in a different room!

Crossing Ireland by Train - Sleep Story by Cillian Murphy
•••
Hear me out: this “sleep story” on the Calm app narrated by Cillian Murphy knocks me out EVERY TIME. I’ve tried others, there ok, but this one is gold. He just narrates a train trip across Ireland and I swear to you, sometimes we barely make it out of the train station 😴

I often return to this video to get sleepy. The twist move at the end is my favorite.

Bedtime routine before you get sleepy
•••
My bedtime routine of dental hygiene (floss, brush, scrape, rinse) and skincare (wash, toner, moisturize) can be kinda invigorating. Instead of doing it all right before bed time, i do it an hour or more before my desired bed time, followed by 30-40 minutes of a movie or reading (in PJs) that usually lulls me to sleep. Being able to get right into bed the moment i start to feel sleepy instead of doing all that self-care (in a brightly lit bathroom), gets me to sleep so quickly at around the time I aim for (10:20).

Plan out your outfit in your head to fall asleep faster

On those nights where my brain won't shut off, I have followed this advice. I just plan out tomorrow's outfit in my head - which undies, bra, socks, etc. I usually knock out before I get past three items.

Yoga Nidra

I use the free version of Insight Timer and there are tons of Yoga Nidra tracks. It’s so freaking powerful; I struggled for years and this really did the trick. Something about having my mind focused allows my body to slide right into sleep.

It’s painful so it makes you super present and is actually so calming. The first time you’ll hate it, but then you’ll try it before bed and be amazed.

i sleep my very best in a cool or even cold room, but it also seems like that's got scientific backing (see article)! i guess the body naturally drops its temperature for sleep, and being in a cold room helps that process along

Really good sleep mask
$75
•••
The best thing I ever did for my sleep was start using a good quality sleep mask. Even at night there’s still enough ambient light to keep me up, apparently. And putting on the mask tells my brain it’s bedtime! I like this one that has eye “cups” that let you blink naturally and a comfortable strap.
