Julia Jacklin’s record, Pre Pleasure
•••
One of my all time favorites, a true desert island record that I could listen to every single day and never ever tire of. I feel like a lot of people liked Pressure to Party and then dropped off? But this is Julia at her finest so far imo (I cannot wait for Gem to come out) - her voice is strong, a little silky, a little rough around the edges of emotion, but she hits the high notes with breathtaking clarity. Hard not to sing along off key to some of these epics like Love (Try Not To Let Go). Put it on, look out the window, maybe it’s drizzling at first but by the time the record ends you’ll be ready to go outside to watch the sky turn colors. I have on vinyl and not to snob about it but I DO think it makes a difference.

ict by Oklou (& the whole Choke Enough album)
•••
Summer in a song, ict captures the exhilaration of chasing the ice cream truck —heart and feet pumping, just praying the truck will hit a stop sign so you can catch up— and feels like it stretches to resonate with every dream-chasing feeling in life. Blade bird is another standout but album is perfect to me!

I Have Considered The Lilies by Connie Converse
•••
A perfect song. A lot to say about Connie Converse but if you appreciate this you should look into her more yourself.

Reliquia by Rosalía (and the whole LUX album)
•••
Not to be dramatic but this album is transcendent. I cried listening to it the first time, and seeing her perform it live was genuinely a spiritual experience which also brought tears 🥲. Every time I listen I cannot help but dance like I’m possessed. She sings in THIRTEEN languages on this album! The music is deeply stirring and the lyrics are profound. Rosalía wants us to never forget that the sacred and the profane are the same.

We Will Always Love You by The Avalanches
•••
This album is practically no skip for me! Interstellar Love samples the Alan Parson’s Project Eye In The Sky (!!) and the whole album feels fresh and brilliant to me. A long album that will most certainly keep you awake on a road trip. My big skip is Weightless but maybe you’ll feel differently.

Two albums by Orion Sun: Hold Space For Me, + A Collection Of Fleeting Moments and Daydreams
•••
Two albums that saved me in 2020! I was incredibly lucky to see her perform from them live a couple years later at a small venue (The Sinclair in Cambridge) and it was everything and more! Someone gave her the sweatshirt off their back at the show because she was cold and she wore it the whole time while performing. It was the coziest most intimate and special vibe, perfect for the music.
