This is linked in my Letterboxd bio as my favorite film of all time. If you are part of a specific pop culture niche this will mean as much to you as it does to me. Rebecca Ferguson (not the actor) in an ENORMOUS bow, One Direction squirming around, Katie Waissel (no comment on current events but she is serving here), Wagner, Diva Fever, and CHER LLOYD—this is like the most bizarre group project I could conceive of. I’m obsessed. I hope Gaga is proud.

Tiny Desk - Juvenile

My roommate’s boyfriend made us watch this when it first came out and now I’ve seen it maybe a dozen times since. Excellent cameos & fantastic encore. In my Tiny Desk Top 5, for sure.

North American Scum (Emily Kokal, Miya Folick)

Came across this while watching The Buccaneers and I was like “wow they put together a really good theme song for this! I love Miya Folick!” Then I was listening to LCD Soundsystem last week and went “oh.” Kind of dig this version more (see aforementioned appreciation of Miya Folick).

Taking an Album Walk
•••
Listen, I’ve read the substacks about being present in nature instead of plugged in all the time, and I do largely agree! However, I live in DA SOUF and it’s getting really hot and humid and I cannot possibly rawdog my walks anymore without falling victim to my own damp misery. What I have taken to doing is walking around and admiring my environment while piping one full album, start to finish and not on shuffle, right into my head. I think it’s also fun to meditate on a tracklist as a whole rather than just the hit singles from time to time. One may also curate their Album Walk to suit the feeling they seek (sad, cunty, tv-show-about-person-in-their-20s-pre-2016, etc).

Diving Woman (Japanese Breakfast)

Excellent song to think about yourself too much to. 6.5 minutes of being self-absorbed to prolonged funky guitar, then cut yourself off and feel well-adjusted again.

My most favorite song ever, hands down. A tune I never tire of. Also, Earl Sweatshirt did a remix that’s also good. But the original reigns supreme!!

Ologies | Alie Ward
•••
Me listening to parts one and two of Chiropterology after those bats got stuck in my apartment, Allergology after I started seeing an allergist, and Oikology right before I had to move. Alie Ward you’ve kind of been there for me always!

I am awfully fond of the Brit com scene actually (I am immersed in the Taskmaster universe and have lately taken to watching free episodes of Would I Lie to You). I’ve been enjoying the new waves of guests they’ve had on lately and I especially like when big stars or Americans come on and have no idea what they’ve gotten into. In my junior year of college I took the most grueling ceramics class of my life (!?) and listening to this once helped get me through eleven hours of throwing some of the fugliest cups ever created.

Bob Fosse's Choreography from Sweet Charity
•••
If I ever had a baby I would show them this as a baby sensory video. I have never seen Sweet Charity, but I watch this video and Hey Big Spender a few times a month. What happens is this: I am lounging in the living room, idle, when inspiration strikes. I turn on the TV, open YouTube, watch Big Spender once, watch this clip all the way through, rewind a few times, rewatch Big Spender again, go “ugh! I just don’t know how they do it!” like I am 65 years old, and then autoplay begins and YouTube starts playing the Motownphilly music video. I went through this routine two nights ago and my roommate remarked to our friend, “oh that’s how you know she’s up too late again. She always does this.” And I do! Because I just don’t know how they do it!

Black Boys on Mopeds (Fontaines D.C.)
•••
Honestly this whole album makes me teary with both despair and hope, but something about current headlines & thinking about who wins in the Being Born Lottery Grian Chatten’s Gregorian chant-esque voice the loss of Sinéad O’Connor makes this one hit especially hard right now
