A sun-washed colonial town in Mexico’s central highlands. Cobblestone lanes wind past candy-colored façades toward the pink, wedding-cake spires of the Parroquia. Come for festival season, when fireworks, giant papier-mâché mojigangas and marching bands take over the streets. Fall is peak time, with the Alborada and Day of the Dead. Between parades, wander a plethora of galleries and studios, from hilltop ateliers to the old textile mill at Fábrica La Aurora. Pack comfy shoes, because those cobblestones are charming but unforgiving.
