The Scandal (2026)
•••
I’ve been watching K-dramas for over a decade, and Scandal on Netflix hooked me almost immediately. If you know Dangerous Liaisons, you’ll recognize the story—it’s a Korean adaptation, and there’s actually already a Korean film version as well. What really stands out to me here is the acting and the dialogue. Even in English translation, the dialogue retains its intensity. Almost every scene is filled with tension. You’re constantly wondering: What are they going to do next? What are they going to say next? And if you have the stereotype that K-dramas are all about waiting until episode 5 for a hand-hold and episode 14 for a kiss, this is very much the opposite. It explores raw human emotions—sex, jealousy, love, hatred, desire, happiness, and everything in between. Dangerous Liaisons is definitely an adult story, and this adaptation doesn’t shy away from that. Highly recommend it if you haven’t watched it yet.

Faith (Korean Drama)
•••
This is such a fun time-travel drama! The female lead travels back to the Goryeo period, but what makes the story unique is that she’s a doctor, while the male lead is a warrior tasked with protecting the king. The drama came out in 2012, so the costumes, sets, and overall production do feel a little dated compared to more recent historical dramas. But honestly, the plot makes it such an easy and enjoyable watch. It moves along quickly, and the time-travel + medical + historical elements make for a really fun combination.

The Tale of Lady Ok (2024–2025)
•••
I loved this drama so much. Our female lead is born a slave, but a tragedy that unexpectedly turns into an opportunity gives her a chance to pretend to be a noblewoman. What she chooses to do with that opportunity becomes the heart of the story. Don’t go into this expecting the usual historical drama tropes. This is really a story about fighting for the rights of people who are treated as less than human, and about a woman recognizing the privilege she has been given and choosing to use it to make a difference. The most interesting part is watching everything unfold once her true identity as a slave is discovered—and seeing what she does when the life she has built is suddenly at risk. There’s very little romance, but honestly, you don’t miss it. The story, the characters, and the questions it raises are more than enough to keep you invested.

The Tale of Nokdu
•••
The Tale of Nokdu is a historical drama that steps away from the usual royal-centered stories and instead shines a light on people who often exist on the outskirts of historical Korean dramas—the widows. Imagine a man disguising himself as a widow, infiltrating a widow’s village, and eventually making his way into the palace, all while trying to get revenge and uncover the truth about his own identity. 😂 It’s such a fun, lighthearted drama with plenty of twists, an entertaining premise, and, of course, so much cute romance. Definitely a refreshing take on the historical drama genre!

The Story Of Park's Marriage Contract
•••
Imagine experiencing a tragedy in your life, only to be transported 500 years into the future—where you realize that eerily similar circumstances are beginning to unfold all over again. Now you have to do everything you can to avoid the tragedy this time around… but can you actually escape your fate? It’s such a fun mix of time travel, time loops, fate, and personal struggles, with plenty of humor woven throughout.

The Crowned Clown
•••
I absolutely loved this drama. What stood out to me wasn’t just the political intrigue or the romance, but the male lead and the way his character was written. The male lead plays a dual role—the king and a clown who ends up standing in for the king. Essentially, you’re watching a king being a king and a clown learning to become one. What amazed me was how convincingly he portrayed both characters. Without any major changes in costume or makeup, he created two completely distinct personalities through subtle changes in his expressions, body language, mannerisms, and voice. The nuance in his acting genuinely left me in awe. Watch this if you enjoy a fun, intriguing premise that unfolds into a serious drama with excellent storytelling and truly outstanding acting.

The Red Sleeve
•••
Based on the true love story of a Korean royal prince and a court maid, The Red Sleeve is such a beautiful drama about love, sisterhood, empowerment, choice, and the complicated power dynamics between the leads. What I loved most is that it never falls into the typical tropes you’d expect from a historical romance—the female lead has her own ambitions, choices, and agency, even when the circumstances around her make those choices incredibly difficult. It’s worth watching just for the love story, but the drama also does a great job weaving in history and giving so many of the supporting characters their own stories and significance. And the romance hits even harder knowing that it’s based on real people. One warning: stop at the penultimate episode if you want to preserve the happiest possible ending. Watch the final episode if you want to know how the real story actually ends. 😭

Mr Queen
•••
If you watch Korean dramas, I highly recommend this one. I’ve honestly lost count of how many times I’ve watched it. The premise is funny, but the layers of storytelling underneath are surprisingly serious and thoughtful. The female lead’s acting is incredible—so subtle and nuanced. And some of the scenes are completely absurd in the best way and will genuinely make you laugh.
