Somatics
•••
Learning about and practising somatics has truly changed my mind-body connection. There are so many simple movements you can do to help release stagnant energy, ground yourself, and regulate your nervous system. This is my friend & teacher's website, but there are many offerings out there to explore, both in person and from your home. Sending so much love <3

i love a restorative inversion! the most delicious thing to do after a day spent on your feet, after a long-haul flight, or just for a calming evening ritual. activate the parasympathetic nervous system, improve circulation, lymphatic drainage, reduce swelling/pain, relieve tension. so simple, so good.

Silly little mental health walks in nature
•••
Just left the house for the first time in 9 days to go for a silly lil mental health walk in nature and found myself bawling my eyes out at this rainbow lorikeet just hanging outside his lil tree stump house. We stared into each other's eyes for a good 10 mins until he decided that was enough and retreated back inside his lil tree hole.

The Big 6 Lymphatic Routine as part of my shower routine

I do the Big 6 while in the shower, it’s a two birds, one stone thing. When done daily it helps with energy, immunity, circulation, detoxification. I love the way it makes me feel afterwards!

this + a sunrise alarm clock means i read so much more because i have at least half an hour of reading time every night before i fall asleep. i started doing this after reading How To Break Up With Your Phone literally six years ago and haven't stopped - it's really nice turning off my phone and closing the door at the end of the day!

Loves Of My Life
The relationship affirming "walk and talk"
•••
My best friend and I are in a long distance relationship, but we keep the love alive with a work-day walk and talk, almost every day Monday through Friday. This is a rec (a plea!) to call your friends!! It's usually 5-15 min. Just enough to remain deep in minutia of each others every day life. I'm sorry, but texts could never. Click through the link for the best walking related song of all time <3

texting the host after a party
•••
I stole this from my husbands cousins (5 girls) who each of them separately texted me after my wedding to gush over their favorite details … (the handmade ceramic ring dishes I gave as a favor or the giant paper mache heads of me and my husband that I made) it made a huge impression on me and I realized it’s such a small thing … and you are thinking it anyway… guaranteed to make the host smile after their efforts are recognized ✨bonus points if you send it with some pictures you took

Jotting down the random thoughts that pop in my head, somehow clears my mind and calms me down. I’ve started carrying a pocket sized notebook with me and find it extremely helpful, even if it’s just a few lines.

Tips
Flossing
•••
Mine is the classic flossing, but I’m always amused by how I came to it: I made it my New Year’s resolution one year. People were making such lofty promises to themselves and mine was just: I’m going to floss every night this year. Real talk, I fell off the wagon in June that year, but that just meant I had a built-in resolution for the next year. And the next year I made it all year and then it was a long-ingrained habit, and I haven’t stopped since. Benefits: 1) the stuff still between my teeth (even after brushing with an electric brush) still astounds me. 2) feeling smug after dentist’s appointments when they say, “wow, I can tell you floss regularly. Your gums are great!” 3) feeling smug about having one single NY resolution in my life that I have for sure fulfilled.

Its exercise but also it signals to your brain that you are safe, it’s stress management thats more fun than meditation or journaling. Carly Rae Jepsen pictured for dance inspo. Linking to an email from Booty and Brains about dance as stress management that really spoke to me.

Tips & Tricks
Doing a wall sit while you brush your teeth at night
•••
I started doing this after I injured my knee and had trouble keeping to my PT exercises/ the thought of doing a wall sit without a distraction was terrible. I figured I could feed two birds with one scone by using the 30 second intervals of my electric toothbrush to do wall sits. I built up to the two minutes, and now I automatically do it without thinking when I brush my teeth at night. Results? Clean teeth and no knee pain.

Thank you postcards

I love to send a thank you postcard after having dinner or being invited over for a hang at someone’s home. You already have their address and don’t even have to ask! Bonus: seeing the postcard on their fridge on your next visit.
