Gymkhana: Best Indian meal of my life. I did a business lunch here, and my client will still text me to tell me he wishes he could have that chicken dish again. Reservations are hard to come by, but I’ve heard you can get a table at the last seating as a walk-in during lunchtime.

Columbia Road Flower Market: It's only on Sundays, but it's one of my favourite markets. Great coffee options, lots of cute shops, and you can keep walking south to Brick Lane, where there's another nice Sunday market and some  great lunch spots.

Getting afternoon tea and a scone at a museum cafe in Britain: Honestly, this is one of my very favorite things to do in the UK. It’s simultaneously both no-frills and chic. Bonus points if you find an atmospheric, old-school tearoom tucked into a random corner inside the galleries.

London’s Double-Decker buses! Sit on top!: For some reason beyond me, even though I have a vestibular disorder and get the worst motion sickness of anyone I’ve ever met, I absolutely loved riding around on the top deck of the red London buses. You never have to wait longer than a few minutes and you see so much more of the city than if you take the underground.

Herb Lester’s London Address Book: This is a great little book to bring with you and toss in your bag each day. It’s organized by neighborhood, so if you’re traveling flaneur-style and are looking for something to eat/do/see near a random spot you’ve landed, you can find something really cool and unique.

Cloth House: You have to book appointments to go into this tiny but chock-full-of-beauty fabric shop. The owner is so cool and kind. If you’re into fabric or sewing, what a memorable place—I think about it weekly. We don’t have places like this in the US.

Walk along the Regent’s Canal: My mom goes to London multiple times a year and said that when we went together in March, it was her favorite trip yet. She cited our walk along the Regent’s Canal on our last day as the reason why. I think we were actually trying to get to Word on the Water but I navigated us in the wrong direction. So we walked from Camden and exited somewhere near Baker St. If you cross paths with Monir, the swan whisperer, tell him Kelly and Denise said hello!
