Hi Kat,
Sending my heart to you. What an incredibly challenging time. I just wanted to offer that you are moving through and any way, any “mess”, and any endless depth of feeling (or numbness or no feeling!) is an essential part of it, brave one! And your timing is the right timing.
From where I sit in this human constellation, it’s my understanding that grief is the most potent, all encompassing experience when waves of it bubble up — and it should be. Unlike other emotions it overrides our ability to push through sometimes. That’s essential. It’s our larger culture that doesn’t make enough room for it, not that you have to cope any differently to not be impacted by it.
That being said, we still live in this culture and have needs and obligations that press in, which can be such a challenge. So any way or any moment you can be genuine about the depths you are feeling and continue to bravely carve out space for your sacred right to grief, even in moments like this, support experiencing it fully.
To toss in another book recommendation, “the smell of rain on dust: grief and praise” by Martin Prechtel was a gentle companion.
