Norman Gilbert

Gilbert’s tender, kaleidoscopic paintings never cease to amaze me. Called “unteachable” by his teachers at the Glasgow School of Art in the 50s, he spent his life painting idiosyncratic, stylized portraits of his wife, children & grandchildren. This 2002 painting, Pictures in Studio, hangs in pride of place in my apartment.
