Liked this, listened to it, and now I have forwarded it to: a mother struggling with a dad in a group activity, and my @charmeeley who was turning me on to some interesting reads and watches from WWII Polish history. Gosh, this story really sums up a tension I hold inside me around community. The ways that it nourishes us and can constrict us. The ways that it is dangerous and also essential. I can go on. But, I say:listen.think. And hear that round rich voice. And ask yourself what it means. Not to decide for certain. But to turn it over in your hand like an acorn.

“Folkways Records released this recording in 1960 — absolutely unnerving and electrifying, this is an annual listen for me. I wonder if you, too, will feel it down to your very bones! People just don’t sound like this anymore! (Although, as I’m writing this, I’m of course thinking of Donna Tartt’s narration of both True Grit and The Secret History…)”
