I didn’t really know that this is what mochi was supposed to taste like… subtle sweet pillows that linger with flavor accents of ginger, passion fruit, strawberry, etc. They also have contemporary versions with Oreo, peanut butter or butter cake. Order ahead to skip the line!

Okay, I was super skeptical about shelling out funds for this journey, but I live in Los Angeles where I cannot see the sky… and I grew up under the dim glow of a mall in Mississippi. This was my chance! It’s truly awe inspiring to star gaze and have a funny tour guide direct your attention to the heavens. We lucked out with a really mild day with clear skies which made it particularly special.

Two-Step Snorkeling

An easy walk-in spot where there are gorgeous fish, and I spotted a sea turtle! Locals say that dolphins swim up to snorkelers during certain seasons.

Magic Sands Beach

This is a tiny little patch of beach, but what’s special here are the big waves. I swam from about 7-9 AM with locals who helped me steer away from the rocks. Every forty minutes, a set of five big waves crush though, and folks body surf using hand fins. I tended to just dive and ride the washing machine, but it was so fun that even a work text couldn’t get me down.

I’m already fantasizing about waking up tomorrow to drive a half hour to get more tasty treats. We stumbled across a stand at the farmers market and bought cinnamon rolls, honey macadamia nut rolls, peaches & cream danishes and ube coffee cake.
