Mr. Mopps' Children's Books: The absolute best children’s books and toy store! ❤️ The book selection is perfection, and the staff loves to talk about books with you. The toys are also amazing, and there’s a sweet little train table for kids to play with while you shop.

Cheeseboard Collective: not much to say that already hasn't been said. this place lives up to the hype! although I don't think they let you sit on the grass median to enjoy your pizza anymore like they did when I was in college, which is sad!

Enliven Mart: i discovered this spot because I'm in the market for a USM Haller console and this place has a great selection. but their vintage selection is really well-curated as well and I aspire to owning a home that can fit more of their stuff.

Urban Ore: i loveeeee a salvage yard and dream of the day that I own a home I can deck out with salvaged materials. for now, I make do with smaller purchases/projects like furniture, lighting, and art from here.

Sunday brunch @ Wat Mongkolratanaram: a fun alternative to a regular brunch. you exchange cash for tokens and then use those tokens to purchase delicious thai food at various kiosks, all served by volunteers at the temple. then you can sit at the plastic tables or on the lawn to enjoy your food.

Viks Chaat: some of the best chaat in the bay area (excluding the South Bay, which is a category unto its own). also just a very fun and noisy vibe. this is a great spot to come with a bigger group so you can try lots of stuff (and take some mithai to go!).

If you’re looking for a preschool, CCC is an OG parent participation preschool with the best teachers. You’ll learn so much as a parent and build community. My kid and I both went there.

Berkeley City Club Pool: Designed by Julia Morgan (who designed the pool at Hearst Castle), this pool is an INCREDIBLE experience to swim in... take note they require swimcaps! It's truly gorgeous.

Tilden Steam Train: The most magical steam train ride! It’s about a 10 minute ride for $5. Everyone loves it - kids and adults. At Christmas they decorate the forest with lights and Father Christmas rides the trains. ✨ And on Sundays, there’s another smaller steam train to ride - just down the path.

Hida Tool in Berkeley, California: This hole-in-the-wall has very helpful staff and is packed with beautiful hardware, bonsai and other gardening equipment, and kitchen supplies. I love the very well-known Soko Hardware in SF’s Japantown as well, but this is such a hidden gem on the far side of the Bay.
