Surprising your future self by hiding ephemera in books

I've gotten into the habit of putting old cards, photos, receipts, notes, and other ephemera into the pages of random books on my bookshelf, and it's turned into a sweet ritual where every time I pick up a book, I am greeted by a gift from my past self! Picking up a book can feel like greeting an old friend, and this practice is a simple way to bring even more joy to an already special act. I was particularly surprised to uncover this found vintage photo of a seagull inside my copy of Jonathan Livingston Seagull this week, which was so serendipitous I couldn't help but smile.
